Your piece last year about Vintage Contemporaries was a beautiful meditation on a certain type of aesthetic and all of the reasons we read books beyond the actual text. Are there any particularly beautiful books covers that you've come across in 2018 so far?
Thanks! I really loved the cover for Elif Batuman's The Idiot. Very simple and nice to look at. I think too many book covers try to overwhelm readers. A. M. Homes also has a new collection coming out and the cover sort of reminds me of a Vintage Contemporaries cover in some ways.
Wow, it's March. What's your favorite thing to do in New York when the weather gets a little warmer?
There's a small hill in my neighborhood. At the top there's this statue of Union soldier General Henry Warner Slocum. I walk my dog past it every single day and make a mental note of how yellow it's getting with the flowers starting to bloom. I also like to think about what pair of jeans is going to get cut down and made into jorts.
What can people expect from your reading?
I'm working on three bigger projects so it will either be something connected to one of those OR an essay about my dog that I might actually read to my dog. Not sure yet.
