Alexa Loftus will be performing at the February 6 edition of The Difficult to Name Reading Series

You wrote, directed and acted in the short film That Fateful Picnic, which screened at CineQuest, which is an awesome film festival! What was your experience like watching the movie with audiences and did you have a favorite job on the film between writing, directing and acting?

Seeing that the audience laughed at all the parts I was hoping would get a laugh-- the feeling is that I can finally unclench my jaw.

I think my favorite part of the process was gathering a bunch of people I really like in one place. It's sort of like you're throwing a party! Except it's a very strenuous work day with zero partying.

You wrote on The Problem with Jon Stewart and while the show ended in 2023, I still see clips from it online all the time. Was there a segment on that show that you are particularly proud of?

I was heavily involved with the monologue for our episode on gender, where we set out to dispute the Right's transphobic (and confusing!) talking points in a way that was clear and funny and the opposite of fearmongering. I think we accomplished that. The episode won a GLAAD award!

Valentine’s Day is a few weeks away. Do you have a favorite romantic comedy?

I love She's All That even though it gave me unrealistic expectations of what high school was going to be like. I got to high school and was like, "Wait, where are all the hot people?" She's All That made me think high school was gonna be overflowing with hotties trying to take me to the beach. I also love the rumor that it was ghostwritten by M. Night Shyamalan-- the movie is full of twists!
