I really love the work that you're doing with Sunset Park Reports, keeping the community informed about upcoming matters involving Sunset Park and Industry City. I loved this recent piece: "NY State Senate rejects FOIL request for emails between Velmanette Montgomery and Andrew Kimball." The headline is very straightforward and you attach all of the relevant information. How did you come up with this format for the blog?
I wanted to investigate this topic, but do so in a way that was accessible to the community. So, I decided to just post everything I was doing in real time, and then post any responses I received when I received them. I didn't want my actions to be a mystery, and I wanted to share my procedure with people so it could be replicated by others, if they were interested.
Looking ahead, what's your favorite thing about New York when the weather is warm?
When it's warm, I get to sweat when I go for my periodic jogs. That makes me feel like I've accomplished more - the sweating. Jogging in the winter, there's no sweat, and the whole thing seems theoretical.
What can people expect from our conversation?
I'm interested in talking about how much control citizens have over the economic development of their communities - that's what's motivating my investigation of this topic.
